The sixth edition of the Pan-African Music Fashion Runway and the Game Changer Africa Acknowledgement Awards has held to acclaim from industry stakeholders.
The event, which held at the Wheatbaker Lagos, on Saturday, November 28, 2020, was attended by two former Big Brother Naija contestants, Dorathy Bachor and Prince Enwerem, and other guests. Some of the personalities that got awards at the event were the Chief Executive Officer of the Silverbird Group, Guy Murray-Bruce; popular fashion designer, Ade Bakare; and a former beauty queen, Helen Prest-Ajayi.
The new MFR Starmodel Award went to Nelson Oghenekewe and Kemi Amusan.
With the theme, ‘Bridging the Equity Divide for a Brighter Future in Fashion and Beyond’, the event was described as a ‘hybrid’ by the organiser and founder of NMO Management, Ngozi Omambala. Expressing joy at the success of the event, she said, “We are proud to present this edition of the event. It was attended physically by few guests while it was open to the rest of the world through live stream on social media. Despite the challenges and unprecedented nature of 2020, we navigated the obstacles to produce a safe, first-class event of live music excellence showcasing Pan-African fashion, mixing established designers and international runway models. We also continue to support breakthrough talent in line with our organisation’s youth support and empowerment initiatives such as GBT Auditions.”
Speaking on what influenced the choice of the awardees, Omambala said, “We honour industry trailblazers and pioneers, recognising their valuable contributions to the creative industry. Silverbird is a media brand that spans the African continent. Its influence and impact have been phenonomenal in the development of pageants and film distribution.
“Helen Prest-Ajayi is a revered former Miss Nigeria and philanthropist who is using her influence to effect change in the education sector and improve the academic curriculum across Africa.
“On his part, Ade Bakare is a veteran fashion designer of over 20 years creating international impact in exporting textured African designs to the rest of the world.
“In essence, the awardees were selected because of their collective longevity, impact and legacy in their respective industries.”
